My name is 23 Havisham Place. Paint peeling, termites making lace of my siding and rough plywood covering my windows. People call me all kinds of names, they always have. Once, they said words like stately, welcoming, and beautiful, but now it’s spooky, haunted and lonely. Home is my favorite word. Especially because once, Home meant me. Continue reading
Hello, everyone!! Just checking in and what do I see? 40 followers! YAY!
WELCOME, NEW PEOPLE!!! Thanks for finding and liking my tiny square of internet!
Speaking of the world wide web, I am currently without internet at home, a situation that I hope will be rectified by tomorrow evening. It has been an eventful and stressful week, so I’m really looking forward to the weekend. I’ll write you all about it when I can sit down and get into details, I promise!
I’ve been trying to figure out what to put up, story wise. It was part of a 60 minute writing group – had to be completed in one hour, and it was. It’s a dark fantasy piece I wrote in 2007 called Until Midnight.
jsackmom, this is for you. 🙂
It’s quiet and dark, so I can hear the leaves protesting the abuse the wind is dishing out to them. I feel like I’m being whipped up with the oak leaves, pulled from my mooring branch and swept out with the gale to the sea. I tell myself I don’t know why it is I’m so restless, I make everyone else around me believe I don’t know. I know why, though. I know why and I can’t express it. I don’t want to admit it – saying it makes it real and I can’t have it be real. Continue reading
What’s HorrorSelfies.com, you ask?
From their site:
In 2014, the Horror Writers Association (HWA) created the Horror Selfies campaign in an effort to highlight the exceptional work, both literary and cinematic, produced by the horror genre. Inspired by the popular “Say it with a Sign” meme—used by everyone from Ellen DeGeneres and Jon Bon Jovi, to David Beckham and Princes William and Harry—the HWA is utilizing the vast reach of social media to provide a platform through which people can tell the world why they love horror.
The HWA put out the call to authors and readers, actors and directors, fans and followers, to submit a selfie in which they hold a sign encouraging others to read horror/dark fantasy, to watch horror movies, or to write horror. Additionally, the HWA is also encouraging people to promote literacy/reading among children and young adults, or supporting a local library in their Horror Selfies.
So, if you’re a horror/dark fantasy writer, filmmaker or a fan, go post your selfie, and show your support for promoting literacy among kids and teens.
And….here I am!
First, thank you to all 34 of the lovely people who are now following my blog. Welcome, Welcome! I hope you guys are enjoying the posts. Eventually, I’ll get to posting some excerpts of my work, because I keep SAYING I write horror, but I’m not putting anything out there for you all to read. The little flash fiction thing I put up a couple of weeks ago doesn’t count. Blame that on the enormous Granny Smith apple I was eating at the time. The pesticides made me do it.
What a day for this little blog, though! Most views since I started, and lots of interaction with one of my favorite bloggers. Even Twitter was super friendly – all the follows there were a great Wednesday surprise.
I feel special, but I know it’s really because all of you are just awesome.
I woke up this morning to find I’d been tapped for this neat little award by the lovely and talented Ms. Dottie Daniels. (Check her blog out here: http://dottiedaniels.wordpress.com/) I’m really flattered, especially since I’m new to the bloghood. In the spirit of the Liebster Awards, I have some questions to answer. 🙂
So, the answers to Dottie’s five questions: Continue reading
Rejection letters are part of pursuing a writing career. They are as unavoidable as death and taxes. Every single writer has gotten them. Let me repeat – EVERY. SINGLE. WRITER. Continue reading
He was the most beautiful kitten I’d ever seen. It was just before Christmas, 1999. I was poking around online, looking at pictures of Maine Coon Cats to show my then husband what the breed looked like. I was clicking through pictures and WHAM, there he was: the most gorgeous ball of blue-gray and white fur ever, his grape green eyes sparkling. It looked as though he was smiling for the camera.
I was completely enchanted. Continue reading
“Music had always been a refuge.”
Yes, I mean you. I owe you an apology. It’s been a little bit since I posted, I know. There have been things I wanted to say. to talk about with you all.
