Me Me Me…All About Me

Comments on my blog are being screened. I have no problem approving comments that call me out on what I say, but I’m out there with who I am. Don’t hide behind a fake name and expect a response.

I’m the Denise DuFresne that lives in Northern Florida. I know there are others all over the U.S. and Canada, but I’m the only one like me around.

I’m a writer, originally from New York City, so I’m still getting used to the Southern way of life.Β  My life goals are to become a successful, best selling authorΒ  and raise my teenage son into a decent, hard working, caring, law abiding adult. Monumental tasks, I know, but that’s what this blog is for. To chronicle the uphill battles of pursuing a writing career while being a single, full time parent and working full time, share the victories and losses and maybe even write some decent posts about this whole writing thing.

Other little things about me:

I have a big brown dog who likes to be as close to me as possible. Right now, she’s one nudge away from this whole page being deleted.

I work at a 140 year old lighthouse in the nation’s oldest continuously occupied city. I don’t care what your history teachers told you, either. My town is older than Jamestown and Plymouth. I love my day job and the people I work with. We keep history alive.

I hate clowns. As in, they scare me to my foundation and I can’t look at them.

I almost dated a rock star when I was young and cute. I don’t know if a drummer that used to be in Kiss counts as a rock star, but yup, he could have been my gateway rock guy to someone bigger. He was twenty years older than me and I met him at work, so dating him struck me as wrong. (No, I did NOT go out with the man. EVER.)

I am currently about 25,000 words from a completed first draft of my novel.

I had a pretty great ride writing fan fiction. Google “kdsch123 fan fiction” and see what comes up.

If you can’t get enough of me, I feel sad for you, but here’s where you can find more on the Internet:

  1. That’s just a bunch of awesomeness right there!!! I fear clowns too, like in the abhor, terrified, heart stopping way. Your job sounds fascinating and meeting that rock star is really cool. He wasn’t meant to be part of your journey to being a rock star single Mom. 😊

    • Thanks!! I’m glad you liked it – these “about” pages give me the shivers – I never know what to say. I love my job and the people I work with πŸ™‚

The rock star died a few years after I met him – a rare type of cancer. He was a sweet guy, as I remember. But you’re right, he was not for me – my son needed a crazy (but nice) sculptor for a father – which is what he has. My ex lives in California and our son sees him summers.

      Clowns, man…I know…

      • Yes I’ve redone my about page twice as I feel I just ramble on there. πŸ˜‰ What a gift to have that moment in time to meet someone so sweet as the rock star. I’ve always believed that artists are passionate people. So with a Mom as a writer and a Dad as a sculptor wow, your sons future will be so bright and promising. 😊

      • He sounds delightful. My oldest son has ambitions to be a hockey player and Master Mine Craft builder. My youngest sons goal is to eat and crush as many fishy crackers into my couch as he can. πŸ˜‰

  2. Hi. We must be related in some way. I love New York city – went with my daughter ( teen at the time) four summers in a row. We stood in line at the TDKS for tickets and like the theatre geeks we were, even did lotto and stand-by. Congrats on your first draft! It gets much easier after that. I’m on draft four and stressing about the fact that I have to make plot changes. I’ll enjoy following your site!

  3. Thanks for paying attention to my stories/blog memories. I knew a DuFresne: long-time president of Winona State University, Winona, MN. I also know where northern Florida is. Just spent some time in Jacksonville at the Race for the Cure. Atlantic is pretty; Gulf is prettier–IMHO.

    • I’m about 45 minutes from Jacksonville, in the nation’s oldest city – St. Augustine. After growing up in Queens, NY and spending time on Long Island, I’m an Atlantic coast girl at heart. πŸ™‚ I really appreciate your stories! My branch of the DuFresne family hails from the Northern Massachusetts mountains. I’ve been told it’s a common French – Canadian last name, but maybe he was a distant cousin πŸ™‚
